San Diego Padres pitcher Ha-Sung Kim, who is eligible for free agency this winter, has hired “super agent” Scott Boras.

Kevin Acey of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported on Twitter on Thursday that Kim has hired the Boras Corporation.

“Kim has a mutual option for the 2025 season, which he will likely decline,” Acey wrote, adding that he is expected to enter free agency despite shoulder surgery.

Kim signed a 4+1 year, $39 million contract with San Diego in 2021. He will earn $7 million per year (plus a $1 million signing bonus) if he exercises his mutual option.

Boras is a “signature” agent in Major League Baseball, nicknamed “the devil for clubs and an angel for players.

Following Park Chan-ho and Ryu Hyun-jin, Lee Jung-hoo (San Francisco Giants) signed a six-year, $113 million contract with Boras last December.

Although he took a bruised ego after failing to land major free agents like Jordan Montgomery, Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell, and Matt Chapman last offseason, 파워볼실시간 Boras' reputation remains strong.

MLB TradeRumors, which specializes in trade news, also interpreted the move as a paving the way for free agency.

“Kim is expected to turn down $8 million and hit the free agent market with a $2 million buyout option,” the outlet said.

However, the outlet added, “If the shoulder surgery prevents him from signing a big contract, he may opt for a short-term deal with multiple options like Chapman and Snell.”

Chapman and Snell signed three-year, $54 million and two-year, $62 million deals with San Francisco, respectively, with an opt-out option in their contracts.

So if Kim is undervalued in this year's Stoble League due to injury, he could be a de facto “free agency bust”.
